Thanks. Ross helpted me. We had to edit the videos. play_circle pause_circle

Lesson Heading

Danger on the railway play_circle pause_circle
Events so far... play_circle pause_circle
Roberta, Peter and Phyllis have moved from London and are living in the country. play_circle pause_circle
Their house is near a railway line and they have become familiar with the trains, the station and the people who work there. play_circle pause_circle
They often watch the trains go by and wave to the drivers and passengers. play_circle pause_circle
One day, they go to pick wild cherries from trees that grow on the sides of the steep valley where the railway runs. play_circle pause_circle
Characters: Roberta, Peter, Phyllis play_circle pause_circle
Scene: the railway line in the valley play_circle pause_circle
The cherry trees are growing best right down there, near the trnnel. play_circle pause_circle
Let's go down the steps beside the tunnel. Then we can easily reach the cherries play_circle pause_circle
Good idea. It's not far. Come on. play_circle pause_circle
Wait a minute. Listen, what's that weird sound? play_circle pause_circle
It isn't the wind. play_circle pause_circle
No..Anyway, it doesn't matter, it's stopped now.No, listen. It's louder. play_circle pause_circle
Look at that tree over there, it's moving! play_circle pause_circle
So it is! How strange! And so are the others. play_circle pause_circle
It looks like the trees are walking down towards the railway line! play_circle pause_circle
What's happening? Is it magic? play_circle pause_circle
No, it's not magic. The side of the valley is slipping. It's all coming down, the rocks, the earth, the trees, everything! play_circle pause_circle
It's a landslide..straight onto the railway line! play_circle pause_circle
Look at the huge mound it's made! It's massive! play_circle pause_circle
It's right across the line! play_circle pause_circle
And the 11.29 train hasn't gone by yet. We must let them know at the station straight away, or there's going to be a terrible disaster! play_circle pause_circle
Let's run! play_circle pause_circle
No, wait! There's no time! It's ten miles away and it's past eleven o'clock now. play_circle pause_circle
Couldn't we climb up a telegraph post and do something to the wires? play_circle pause_circle
We don't know how. play_circle pause_circle
They do it in war. I know, I've heard of it. play_circle pause_circle
They only cut them, Silly, and that won't do any good. play_circle pause_circle
And we wouldn't be able to cut them even if we got up there. play_circle pause_circle
If only we had something red, we could wave to the train. play_circle pause_circle
We could wave, anyway. play_circle pause_circle
They'd only think it was us, as usual. We've waved so often before. Oh, what can we do? play_circle pause_circle
We must go down to the line, at least. This way.Oh, how hot I am and I thought it was going to be cold. I wish we hadn't put on...out flannel petticoats! play_circle pause_circle
Oh!... Yes! They're red! Let's take them off. play_circle pause_circle
What a brainwave! Phyllis, give me your petticoat. Thanks. Now..I'll have to tear it. play_circle pause_circle
Tear it? You mustn't! play_circle pause_circle
Shut up, Phyllis! In this situation, we have to be inventive! play_circle pause_circle
Oh, yes, tear them into little bits if you like. Don't yo see, Phil, if we can't stop the train, there'll be real live accident, with people killed. Oh, horrible! play_circle pause_circle
There, now we've got six flags. And we've got seven minutes. We have to have flagpoles. Snap off these long thin branches...hurry. play_circle pause_circle
We'll have to cut holes in the flags and run the sticks through the holes. play_circle pause_circle
Yes! Quickly! There! Now I'll push these two flags into the stones under the sleepers, right in the middle of the track. There, that's done! play_circle pause_circle
You two can have a flag each and I'll have the other two because it was my idea to wave something red play_circle pause_circle
They're our petticoats, though.. play_circle pause_circle
Oh, what does it matter who waves what, if only we can save the train? play_circle pause_circle
It should be here by now. play_circle pause_circle
I expect your watch is wrong and the train's already gone by. play_circle pause_circle
No, I can hear it in the distance. play_circle pause_circle
Oh, yes you're right, it's coming. It's coming at top speed! play_circle pause_circle
Stand firm and wave like mad. When it gets to that big bush, step back but go on waving. play_circle pause_circle
It's getting closer... wave your flags, we must wave! play_circle pause_circle
They won't see us. They won't see us...it's all no good! play_circle pause_circle
It's coming closer! play_circle pause_circle
Keep off the line, Roberta, you silly cuckoo! They have to see us, they have to! play_circle pause_circle
It's no good. It isn't stopping! play_circle pause_circle
Stand back! play_circle pause_circle
Not yet, not yet!...Oh, stop, stop, stop! play_circle pause_circle
Roberta!! play_circle pause_circle
